Day Thirty-Two: Drive to St. Louis, Missouri

Check out for our VRBO was 11:00 am, but we were on the road by 10:00 am. We were very fortunate we had such a beautiful day on Eli’s birthday because today was cloudy and rainy again.

The clouds around the house in the morning were crazy!
More crazy clouds

Our drive today was around five hours and the view was a mixture of green land for miles and some interesting sites along the highway. We had a surprise stop along the way to chick-fil-a! It was SO good!!!! This was one of the things Eli asked for his birthday; however, the locations are not as easy to locate in the Midwest as they are on the East Coast. Day late, but worth the wait!

Yum!

Before heading to our RV park for the night we stopped outside St. Louis, in Clayton, to visit friends who moved around seven years ago from Richmond. Betsie and Sophia were very close friends and they have continued to stay in touch all these years. It was wonderful to have some human interaction as well with friends!
They were extremely hospitable and the kids loved taking a dip in their pool! We stayed outside the whole time, but if you wanted to go up to the screened in porch that was the only other place they were allowing visitors. Both families took precautions for sure! Thank you to the Mutis Family for being a stop on our journey. Tag you’re it, to visit us the next time you’re back in RVA (I like the every two year plan!).

Betsie and Sophia. They became fast friends in second grade and have kept in touch ever since! Sophia moved to St. Louis in third grade.

Our RV Resort was only thirty minutes from their home right off Historic Route 66 again. We picked another KOA as there were not many options and this has been our fifth KOA this trip. When you arrive ‘after hours’, they place your map with instructions to your site drawn out for you pinned up on a board for you to grab. When I pulled it down I noticed next to our site number, it read “Free Upgrade”. I looked at Will and said, “who knew campgrounds gave upgrades too!”. I knew we didn’t have a reservation for a site with a patio, as online it said they were not available. This was not only a nice surprise, but the setting and the size of the patio was one of the biggest! It’s the little things!

We had so many leftovers from Eli’s birthday dinner that Will made a “Will creation” before we left the VRBO and all we had to do was heat it up in the toaster oven when we arrived. It was easy, fast and delicious! Dinner was followed by some outdoor time on our patio and then finishing up Eli’s birthday cake.

She was in the silliest mood last night!

Everyone was nestled into their beds by 10:30 pm and out like a light!
